Our Story

On the afternoon of February 27, 1870, a group of like minded followers of  Christ gathered for a most important endeavor.  The official minutes of the meeting that followed reflected the desire of those individuals to organize a Baptist Church in the city.  And now, for over 150 years, First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst has stood as a beacon faithfully shining the light of Christ from our city to the ends of the earth.

"I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth." Acts 13:47 ESV

While the challenges of ministry seem overwhelming. the opportunities for ministry present themselves more than ever.  Our desire is to meet people in all walks of life where they are with the love of Jesus and the truth  of the Gospel.

"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers you did it to me."  Matthew 25:40

In response to our Lord's Great Commission countless numbers of followers of Christ continue to gather to Worship, study and pray for the courage to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth. What began simply as a place to gather, FBC has now become a headquarters for deployment to reach, teach and minister in the power of the Holy Spirit.
