• Dr. John Matthews

A Mississippi boy at heart, John grew up in Columbus but spent the first 15 years or so of ministry in Louisiana.  It was there while working as a student minister he experienced the call to the pastorate. He has had the joy of serving as pastor here in Hazlehurst since 2010.
Most people say he married up (and he readily agrees) when he married Tonya.  The two have three awesome kids: Alex, Abby, and Andrew.  John is a Mississippi State grad and got his M.Div. and D.Min from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

  • Rev.  Thomas Vanlandingham

    Interim Minister to Students &

    Mission Coordinator

We are blessed to have Thomas as our Interim Minister to Students and Mission Coordinator.  A Mississippi State grad and pursuing his Masters through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he has roots deep in our state and our community.  Joining us in the fall of 2016, Thomas leads our dynamic student ministry, Cornerstone. Knowing his heart and desire to be a servant leader, it is no surprise to see him serving in so many areas around our church.

As we follow the Great Commission, we are committed to making disciples starting in our community and moving to the ends of the earth.  Thomas is the man who helps coordinate and implement that disciple-making strategy.

  • MaRie Wells

    Ministry Assistant

Marie joined us the beginning of 2015 and hit the ground running.  When you come by the office or give us a call, Marie is the one you will usually interact with first.  We know you'll discover, if you haven't already, what a great asset she is to this church.

  • Janet Hankins

    Ministry Assistant

Despite being an avid Alabama fan, Janet is a tremendous blessing to our office and ministry team.  The "office manager" is a key part of the team that keeps everything moving together smoothly.  She has been a wonderful part of the staff here since 2001.  In addition to her service in the office she is actively involved throughout the life of the church through teaching AWANA, helping lead worship as part of the choir and ensemble, and much more.

  • Sandra Hall

    Ministry Assistant

Sandra came on board in 2013 and does a tremendous job as she works alongside our stewardship team with the church's financial matters.  Sandra offers great insight with her wise input across the church fellowship.  Though relatively new on staff, her influence and leadership in the church is far reaching and important.

  • Earl Johnson

    Building Supervisor

Keeping a nearly 100 year old facility looking and running well is a challenging task, but Earl is the man that excels in it.  Earl's can do attitude and servant's heart make him a cherished part of the ministry team.  From building stages from scratch for choral presentations, maintaining a beautiful church campus, to solving technical issues that arise from day to day, Earl is the man.  What a blessing he is to our church!
